Franken Talks Down Angry Mob

Follow Dusty Trice on Twitter: twitter.com I got to witness something really special. About a dozen tea party activists had staked out Sen. Al Franken’s booth, and confronted him loudly when he arrived. But within minutes, he’d turned an unruly crowd into a productive conversation on health care. The discussion went from insurance reform, to the public option, to veterans benefits, to cap and trade. He made a few laugh and even told a touching story that moved a few to tears. A whole lot of common ground was found. Read more at DUSTYTRICE.COM Follow me on Twitter: @DustyTrice

    A comic for Senator? Does that mean the people who voted for him are a joke? I mean first Jesse Ventura and now this? Who’s next in line? Kathy Griffin? Rosie O’donnell? Way to go Minnesota, the joke is on you! We’re laughing AT you, not with you!

    @floating00eye: Article I Section 10 of the original US constitution is the correct reference. My mistake. Now it’s not a “lie”. It is apparent from your statement that you don’t understand what is meant by the intrinsic value of paper money which is this: paper fiat money has always in history reverted through hyperinflation to it’s intrinsic value which is no more than the value of the paper which it is printed on.

    @bluemonkeyeek please oh expanded mind who should we be like greece eroupe canada socailism communism has never worked ever ever ever. even castros son said his govt is privatizing the economy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! where he needs to be looking for advise is his boss the people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i want to be like America.

  14. floating00eye says:

    @VoteLib3rty the 10th amendment does most certainly NOT say that!! In fact, it says: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” Soo…your statement is a lie. And there is not such a thing as ‘intrinsic value’; interestingly, that’s an almost Marxist concept, implicitly (i.e., labor theory of value).

  15. bluemonkeyeek says:

    @49306Q

    What’s wrong with seeing what other countries are doing? If it’s working good or even just better than what we’re doing, why not take a closer look and see how they are able to do what they do and see what we can learn from them.

    Don’t be so shortsighted. Expand your mind, duuuuuuude.

  16. 49306Q says:

    he needs to vote on how his constituents want him to vote. lets not look at other countrys lol. listen to this smuck. vote him out asap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. VoteLib3rty says:

    @nafaidni: “All currency would be worthless…” Only bank notes by fiat would revert to their intrinsic value. Gold and silver would skyrocket. This is why the (largely ignored) US Constitution states in the 10th Amendment that: “No State shall make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts”. This is a lesson you may learn first hand in your lifetime.
    I’m enjoying the spirited debate. Why don’t we continue in personal messages to give others the room to speak here?

  18. iatemine says:

    @nafaidni The cost of medicare will double then triple. We will start paying taxes on Our Premiums AND the portion Our Employers pay amounting to $5000+ per year. Insurance premiums will go UP not down…shall I continue?
    I suggest You start paying attention Pumpkin, before you call someone a Idiot. YOU are the fool and it is because of lemmings like YOU We are in this mess.

  19. iatemine says:

    @nafaidni ok, I am willing to go through a detailed analysys. But before I do, I would like to throw Your question back at You. Tell Me what He said about the Health Bill that is the truth?
    They lied about Health Care Costs going down, They will go up. They lied about Death Panels, There WILL be a Bureaucratic panel assigned to determine Who gets what and Who will not. They lied about costs. Everyone will pay more and not only that everyones taxes will go up. I have a whole list more..

  20. nafaidni says:

    @iatemine

    Actually, it turns out everything you just said excepting watching his show is a lie. You, like your worthless allies, cannot point to a single thing he said that was factually untrue, let alone a lie.

    Typical Repubs like Joe Wilson… shouting out “You lie!” to compensate for their own lack of truthfulness.

    Name a single thing he said that isn’t true, and then you might be believable enough to go on Mark Levin (hahahaha, I crack myself up).

  21. nafaidni says:

    And true, you can be a citizen of no state. But then you’ll generally be barred from legally going anywhere until you get a Visa and then residency. So it’s not very practical at all. I don’t consider this a real right, since the costs are too ridiculous.

    I don’t think the Fifth Amendment would really ensure that you could be a sovereign, though. As it implies, a person’s property can be withdrawn for public good if they are compensated well enough.

  22. nafaidni says:

    @VoteLib3rty

    The barbarism of ungoverned society is quite easy to explain. If government suddenly vanished today, crime would double by midnight (four hours for me). All currency would be worthless, and thus, all forms of mass exchange would more or less become nullified (Computer companies won’t barter laptops for eggs). The Stock Market would go nonexistent. We’d get invaded. Our GDP would rapidly decline. All our services would be gone. We’d be conquered or form new government(s) at once.

  23. iatemine says:

    Turns out everything Franken told these folks is an outright Lie!
    Suprised?
    I watched this buffoon for 2 years on his failed show Air America, nothing He says is the truth.
    The Health Care Bill is going to bankrupt People and Businesses and completely lower the quality of Health Care.

  24. VoteLib3rty says:

    @nafaidni: As an aside and not to argue for arguments sake, but we can be independents or sovereigns if we so wish to do so. Our Constitutional government had intended to protect us as sovereign citizens and we were to have private property rights allowing us to be “kings of our castles” / sovereigns on our land complete with land patents etc. This was finagled from us, however we are free to turn in our social security numbers and give up citizenship as impractical as this may be.

  25. VoteLib3rty says:

    @nafaidni: The barbarism of ungoverned society is largely a myth created by those in the business of governing.
    “No one is really given the right of freedom, even from just government.” This is at the crux of our difference in opinion. Rights are not given by man. I concede that this philosophy is only valid if it can be agreed upon by the governed which is why our form of government is “wholly inadequate” according to John Adams for the governing of an immoral or irreligious people.
